Ulalena

We went to Ulalena. This fabulous stage shows us Hawaii's history through the hula, modern dance, music and live drum performance.

As you learn more about the Hawaiian history, the mythologies, hula, Hawaiian language and the culture, you will like the show more and more. I thought the story is a little difficult to understand for most of visitors and just-became-Kama'ainas, if they haven't learned Hawaiian history before. Here are some stories that relate to the Ulalena. They are very popular myths and all kids in Hawaii know them.

These Hawaiian mythologies and legends help you to understand and enjoy the show much more.

Legend of Pele (Fire Goddess) - http://sacred-texts.com/pac/hm/hm13.htm

Myths of Pele and Kamapua'a (half man & half hog) - http://sacred-texts.com/pac/hm/hm16.htm

Legend of Maui (Polynesian Superman) - http://sacred-texts.com/pac/hm/hm18.htm

Myths of Hina (Goddess of Moon) - http://sacred-texts.com/pac/hm/hm17.htm

We were very impressed the show, their powerful chants, spectacular hula and dance, beautiful music and dramatic live drum performance. This show is not only for the visitors. We encourage all local people to watch the show!
